Doctor R. Crants has been fired as chief executive officer of Prison Realty Trust and Corrections Corporation of America, hastening his planned departure from the troubled companies.
CCA prisons in Mississippi, Oklahoma and Tennessee house about 4,800 Wisconsin prison inmates.
Crants, who co-founded CCA and built it into the world's largest private prison operator, had earlier announced his resignation as part of a plan to merge the sister companies. But he had planned to stay until a new CEO was found.
