PROVIDENCE, R.I. _ Ivy League presidents have sacked Brown University's football program for the biggest loss in the league's 44-year history.

Unsatisfied with sanctions Brown imposed upon itself last April for minor recruiting violations, and unmoved by the NCAA's approval of those sanctions, the presidents have ruled that Brown will not be eligible for the Ivy League football championship this fall.

The Bears shared the 1999 title with Yale, only the second time since the Ivy League began play in 1956 that Brown had earned a share of the football championship.
