NASHVILLE, Tenn. _ Eager to portray the Democratic ticket as symbolic of a "new guard" in politics _ and to steal a little thunder from Texas Gov. George W. Bush's acceptance speech _ Democratic campaign officials Thursday said that Vice President Al Gore had whittled his list of potential running mates down to six candidates.
Two top Gore campaign officials, who both declined to speak on the record, said the final six are Sens. Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut, John Kerry of Massachusetts, Evan Bayh of Indiana and John Edwards of North Carolina, plus House Minority Leader Richard Gephardt of Missouri and Gov.
