Recently, the World Health Organization launched its second global report on drug resistant tuberculosis, in which Denmark was mentioned as one of the countries with increasing rates of drug resistance.
This conclusion was drawn from nationwide drug resistance data on more than 3,000 tuberculosis patients in Denmark from 1991 to 1998.
During this period, Denmark experienced an increase in the annual number of tuberculosis patients, which is primarily due to immigration from high incidence areas, according to the study, presented in the August 2000 issue of the European Respiratory Journal.
