Green Land, Brown Land, Black Land is based on author James McCann's "Environmental History of Africa" course at Boston University. As such, it is an excellent book for use in similarly titled undergraduate courses. McCann summarizes arguments from leading contemporary works on African environments and presents them with fine illustrations and maps in a form accessible to nonspecialists.
