Just as manufacturers are coming to terms with client/server technology, the Internet and e-Business have arisen to challenge assumptions about how software applications add value to manufacturing enterprises.
Where does value come from today--the information and business logic held in traditional client/server systems, or across business processes that utilize Internet-based trading exchanges or collaborative Web sites? The answer, of course, is "both." Manufacturing managers today have to weigh a mix of software applications, technologies, and services, ranging from traditional packaged applications, to the latest in e-marketplace offerings.
