Europe laga in internet exchange use, but quick uptake led by big companies expected
When it comes to Internet-based trading exchanges, Europe is at least one year behind the U.S.--and may lag by as much as two years. On the other hand, Europe's late start may result in a smoother transition to the use of Internet-based marketplaces than looks likely to be the case in the U.S. Although such marketplaces could account for 54 percent of business-to-business (B2B) trade in the U.S. by 2004, analyst firms such as Forrester Research, Cambridge, Mass., expect a shakeout, with losers as well as winners.
