Former Republican Gov. George Allen delivered some of the most biting lines and got most of the laughs, but lawyers watching the first debate of the 2000 U.S. Senate race Saturday gave incumbent Democratic Sen. Chuck Robb credit for making the best case to voters.
``He had a position he could support by facts,'' said one participant at the Virginia Bar Association's 110th summer meeting at the Homestead resort. ``I'm leaning a bit more toward Robb after this debate.''
