For more than 20 years, math disabilities have been recognized as a type of learning disability, as evidenced by the inclusion of mathematics in the two most influential definitions of learning disabilities (i.e., National Joint Committee on Learning Disabilities, 1990/1994; Individuals with Disabilities Education Act Amendments of 1997; see also Hallahan, Kauffman, & Lloyd, 1996; Hammill, 1990; Hammill & Bryant, 1998; Mercer, Jordan, Alstrop, & Mercer, 1996).
