A partner in a prestigious Boston law firm and one of his two young sons died in Switzerland Sunday when a mudslide on a popular mountain path swept them to their deaths.
Paul M. Vaughn, 53, of Weston, and his son, Benjamin, 12, were killed along with a Swiss hiking guide when an overhang in the Berner Oberland mountain range soaked by heavy rains broke free and swept them down the mountainside 6,600 feet above the central Swiss resort of Grindelwald.
Vaughn's younger son, Adam, 10, was not injured.
"Paul was so devoted to those two kids," said Richard Toelke, who like Vaughn is a law partner in the real estate group at Bingham Dana in Boston.
