The Rev. Dr. Vashti Murphy McKenzie of Baltimore recently was elected a bishop in the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church, making her the first female to hold such a position in the denomination's 213-year history.
"Because of God's favor, the stained glass ceiling has been pierced and broken," said the pastor of Payne Memorial AME Church in Baltimore following her historic appointment.
