Lower price and a better warranty led to General Electric's [GE] win over Rolls-Royce and Pratt & Whitney [UTX] last week in the Air Force Reliability Enhancement and Re-engining Program (RERP) for the Lockheed Martin [LMT] C-5 Galaxy airlifter.

The GE proposal, which included the company's CF6-80C2 engine, "had a slightly lower acquisition cost and a moderately better warranty," Bill Arndt, Lockheed Martin's vice president of strategic airlift, told Defense Daily in a telephone interview yesterday.
