A few years back, Holliston, Mass., native Jo Dee Messina was days away from leaving Nashville and giving up her dream of a career in country music.
Last week, as her second album hit stores, Billboard's most-played country female of 1999 collected her second consecutive Country Music Association nomination for female vocalist of the year.
