BRINKMANN-SHIP AT DERMARK
An hour's drive from industrial Hannover in West Germany's pastoral north country lies the thousand-year-old town of Goslar. From the airport, the highway threads through rolling farmlands punctuated by hundreds of hamlets whose orange-tiled rooftops nestle among protective clumps of white oak, willow, paper birch, russian olive and black pine trees, each community surmounted by the requisite church steeple that defines each to each other.
