We're not surprised that the tobacco industry would try to undermine the World Health Organization's anti-smoking campaign. With cigarette smoking on the decline in the United States, the industry has been seeking new markets, particularly in developing countries. It's not easy to push cigarettes when the WHO is bombarding those countries with information about the dangers of smoking.
Even so, a report commissioned by the WHO, released last week, is fairly appalling. It accuses the tobacco companies of trying to sabotage the organization's work for more than ...
