A traditional saying in China is that "Men dominate the outside; women dominate the inside." The first part of this statement suggests that women are not expected to work outside the home; their husbands will take charge of external affairs. The second part indicates that men need not be concerned with housework; their wives will take responsibility for everything within the home.
