Foster-care providers give homes to some of the state's most troubled youth and receive little compensation, resulting in a shortage of qualified providers and an increasing demand for their services.
Rep. Joyce McDonald, R-Puyallup, is sponsoring legislation that she hopes will recruit and retain qualified foster-care families. Yesterday, she and other foster-care advocates testified before the House Children and Family Services Committee in support of several foster-care bills.
McDonald emphasized that parents do not take foster children for the money they receive from the state.
