About two dozen seals lolled about on a crowded patch of reef, some partly in the water with their tail flippers raised and their wet, gray fur glistening in the sunlight.
Seemingly worry-free, content to loaf, a few lifted their heads slightly as the tour boat approached.
The small herd of humans aboard had just the opposite reaction.
``Oh my gosh, look at those seals!'' exclaimed Susan Alton, a University of Washington grad student, as she scanned the reef with binoculars. ``Big fat seals!''
About 20 more pairs of binoculars went in like a flash amid a murmured chorus of ``Oohs'' and ``aahs'' and ``oh-looks.''
