BOEING TO CUT PRICE OF C-17 IF AIR FORCE BUYS 60 MORE.(Business)

In a bold move that would extend production of its C-17 military transport plane to at least 2007, The Boeing Co. has offered to cut the price of the $195 million plane by 15 percent if the Air Force buys 60 more.

Boeing is under contract to build 120 C-17s for the Air Force, and delivered the 49th last week. Without new orders, the production line in Long Beach, Calif., would shut down in 2003.

Boeing President Harry Stonecipher personally delivered Boeing's proposal to the Air Force Tuesday.
