The second-floor sanctuary at St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church overlooks a lush field and tall firs, a serene view befitting a house of worship.
But inside the church, amid walls covered with gold-framed icons, members lifted up urgent prayers and lighted candles Wednesday evening as thoughts turned to the conflict in Kosovo.
``For peaceful times, let us pray to the Lord,'' the Very Rev. Dane Popovic implored.
``Lord have mercy,'' two dozen worshipers responded at Washington's only Serbian Orthodox Church.
