Due to circumstances beyond our control, the Sonoran desert's wildflower display will be puny this year.
A dry winter has produced a dull spring - unlike last year, one of the best for viewing desert vegetation.
But floraphiles can take heart. A glorious display of native foliage is waiting at the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix, where the experts have fooled Mother Nature.
The trick? Water.
