The scent and savor of lemon entice our senses, whether we meet them in the garden, kitchen, bath or boudoir. Nature must like lemon, too, since the distinctive lemon essence occurs in all sorts of plants - sometimes in flowers, sometimes in foliage - that are totally unrelated to the original citrus fruit.
Lemon grass (Cymbopogon citratus), a grassy perennial herb, contains one of nature's most satisfyingly lemony flavorings. Lovers of Thai and Indian food are familiar with the strong but subtle taste of this grass relative. To me, it combines the zest of lemon with a spicy bite reminiscent of gingerlike galangal.
