As great a movie director and actor as Orson Welles was, film may have been his second-best performance medium.
Welles burst to national prominence in radio. While he's best remembered for his ``War of the Worlds'' broadcast that panicked a nation, KUOW-FM (94.9) is presenting a four-part series starting next Wednesday that demonstrates his work was far more than that.
For example, Welles was one of the actors who played The Shadow, so on Wednesday KUOW-FM airs a 1938 broadcast of that serial with Agnes Moorehead playing Margo Lane. (All four programs air at 9:30 p.m.)
