Ken Hechler may be the only active candidate in the post-Monica era of American politics who gets away with singling out female strangers in a crowd of constituents, holding out his arms, and grinning as he gently asks, ``May I give you a hug?''
In receiving multiple hugs one day this week for his daring, Hechler, West Virginia's elected secretary of state for the past 15 years, was helped by the fact that he is an 84-year-old ((age)) political legend who was wooing a gray-haired sea of retirees at the crowded Kanawha Valley Senior Services picnic.
