Web sites in the United States and elsewhere devoted to the Falun Gong meditation group are coming under heavy electronic attack, managers of the sites said yesterday.
At least one ``hacking'' attempt appears to trace back to a Chinese national police bureau in Beijing.
Falun Gong has been banned in China, where communist authorities are engaged in an escalating crackdown. In Beijing yesterday, police beat a man outside Zhongnanhai, the tightly guarded headquarters of the Communist Party and central government. Authorities detained at least 20 people in its effort to crush the sect.
