Five people - including a father and son from Seattle - died in Vancouver, B.C., over the weekend as their boat jockeyed for position for a large fireworks show.
Their 40-foot yacht, piloted by a Bellevue man, flipped after becoming snared by an underwater cable connecting a barge and tow boat, which was under way at the time. The accident, in English Bay off Vancouver's Stanley Park, happened about 9:45 p.m. Saturday.
The captain of the yacht did not heed three warning lights on the tug's mast when he tried to navigate between the barge and tug, said Sgt. Brian Schier of the West Vancouver Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
