It's tempting to call Lyle Lovett's concert the tightest two hours in show business - except he couldn't quite settle for just leaving it at that.
Backed by an extended version of his aptly named Large Band - 17 musicians altogether - Lovett segued seamlessly from jumpin' R&B to twangin' country, from chamber folk to sparkling pop, from twisted gospel to soulful swing. ``Closing Time,'' a song from his first record that also concludes his new ``Live in Texas'' CD, provided an ideal ending for the two-hour set - except that Lovett returned for two encores and five more songs before finally calling it a night.
Not surprisingly, a good chunk of the show ...
