When you get the Rives family together the sparks fly. Literally.
Alexander Rives, an 18-year-old Lakeside School senior, is the proud inventor of the ``Lightning Machine,'' an educational toy being sold through his parent's scientific toy company, Scientific Explorer.
The toy is making sparks on the market too, with more than 30,000 sold since April. It's now in close to 2,000 stores, including the Discovery Channel and Museum Company stores, according to Alexander's dad, William.
It made the list of ``Best Children's Vacation Products for 1999'' which is produced by Dr. Steven Auerbach, an expert in child development.
