It's no surprise the human body operates electrically - Frankenstein's monster, after all, was brought to life by lightning - but scientists didn't know until recently exactly how human electrical signals are turned on and off.
After more than 30 years of studying something in the human cell too small to be seen even with the most powerful microscope, the University of Washington's Dr. Bertil Hille is among three researchers honored for helping identify and describe a basic electrical mechanism in all living creatures.
