Senegalese guerrilla and government negotiators began peace talks in neighboring Gambia yesterday, aiming to end a 16-year separatist war in the West African country's southern enclave of Casamance.
Soon after negotiations began, the opposing sides agreed to honor a 1993 cease-fire that had collapsed, a joint statement said.
