Mother Nature appears to have solved the problem of too many moose on the Anchorage Hillside.
She killed them.
When Alaska Department of Fish and Game biologists did their annual survey earlier this month, they were surprised to count about a third fewer moose than last year.
``The most likely cause of the decline is starvation'' due to a deep-snow winter lingering long into spring, said area biologist Rick Sinnott.
Anchorage residents didn't report an unusually large number of moose carcasses scattered around the Hillside after the snow melted, but that's not unusual, Sinnott added.
