Although annoyed at the gloom and wet of winter, we are proud of our summers in the Pacific Northwest.
But with the short, soggy winter days, it's to be expected that we might wish to be in sunnier climes at this time of year - some place with weather just like our summer, instead of our winter.
Some place like Chile, because if it's winter here, it's summer in Chile.
The southern coast of Chile's narrow strip of land, snug between the Andes and the ocean, has a similar weather pattern and fairly similar temperatures to ours, but reversed, since it's in the Southern Hemisphere.
What better way to find good plants for our gardens than ...
