A Madison biotechnology company that hopes to help transplant patients is getting a financial boost.

Renovar just began operations last month, the outgrowth of UW-Madison research, and already it has landed a $500,000 stock purchase from Fujisawa Investments for Entrepreneurship. The Evanston, Ill., venture capital firm is an arm of a major Japanese drug company, Fujisawa Pharmaceutical Co.

``In the transplant field, Fujisawa has a very dominant position,'' said UW-Madison transplant surgeon Dr. Stuart Knechtle, Renovar co-founder and chief scientific officer.
