SINCE HE CAME TO STAY, THE New York Yankees have run off Series titles in triplicate. Of all the Yanks taking that near-annual ride down the Avenue of Heroes, through ticker tape thick as snow, Derek Jeter indisputably is the toast of the town.
New York, that is. Not Greensboro.
Sometimes, recollections of Greensboro, North Carolina, are the only way Jeter's teammates have to remind themselves that their shortstop isn't the perfect ballplayer, even if he's always been the perfect gentleman. A few of them saw the routine grounders Jeter kicked, and the wildly errant missiles he threw, all over the South Atlantic League.
