The Boruca Hydroelectric Project is planned to be a regional electricity supply network to serve Costa Rica and the other Central American countries (Panama, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala). It has the potential of producing 460 MW in its first phase and 1,520 MW in its second phase, and is estimated to cost US$800 million. The completion of the project is contemplated for the year 2008. The project will go a long way in addressing the growing demand for electricity for the Central American region:
