The impending sale of the Tacoma Rainiers could touch off a series of events that might jeopardize the future of Class AAA baseball at Cheney Stadium and its continued affiliation with the Mariners.
With owner George Foster of the California-based Foster poultry business looking to sell the team, it's fair to question whether the 40-year-old facility can sustain its relationship with the Mariners, or whether it might be left to seek out and settle for a Class A club.
The team's lease at the city-owned 9,600-seat stadium runs through 2005, but the Mariners' contract with the franchise expires in 2002. Making a sale all the more complicated is the condition ...
