KIDS' SCENTS GROWING UP
EYE ON FRAGRANCE
NEW YORK -- Children's fragrances are catching up to their grown-up counterparts with higher prices and sophisticated positioning.
While Tom Fields, Inc., has dominated the children's market with its Tinkerbell fragrances, sold in mass outlets since the Fifties, the category has caught the attention of prestige fragrance makers.
Within the past year, the industry saw its first designer scents for babies and children with Maelle from Irene Clayeux and Ptisenbon from Parfums Givenchy. The Maelle fragrance bowed in France in 1987, and Ptisenbon was introduced to the U.S. in March.
