Aug. 18--TEMECULA, Calif.--Scientists are relying on an old enemy to fight a new battle in California's wine country.
Last week, researchers released hundreds of tiny parasitic wasps imported from Northern Mexico in Riverside and Temecula, where the formidable glassy-winged sharpshooter is spreading vineyard-destroying Pierce's Disease.
Agriculture officials said the wasp release was limited and will be closely watched to see how well the little critter does in the wild.
Scientists cautioned that the new wasp is not a winged silver bullet that will wipe out Pierce's Disease, but one of many weapons being used to curb the spread of the disease ...
