MONTREAL, Aug 17 /CNW-AsiaNet/ - Alcan Aluminium Limited is expected to launch a public exchange offer (the "Exchange Offer") on August 29, 2000 for all shares in Alusuisse Group Ltd (the "algroup Shares") of a nominal value of CHF100 each.

As at March 31, 2000, 6,790,242 algroup Shares were outstanding. As announced on June 1, 2000, Alcan and Alusuisse Group Ltd agreed that Alcan would, subject to certain conditions, launch a public exchange offer for all outstanding algroup Shares.

It is intended that the Exchange Offer will contain the following main terms and conditions:
