When they needed a boost during their long political journey, Bill Clinton and Al Gore often went to the river -- to the Mississippi, to a city named La Crosse.
Today Gore, the newly minted Democratic presidential nominee, returned to the river and La Crosse, where a banner on the white paddleboat that will take him on the first leg of his campaign read, ``Setting Course for America's Future.''
``It's good luck to start the entire campaign in Wisconsin,'' Gore told reporters when his plane arrived at 6 this morning.
People who gathered in the thousands to greet Gore and U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman at Riverside park were upbeat, too.
