The German state Hesse plans to expand the operations of Frankfurt international airport to increase the number of take-offs and landings from 78 to 120 per hour.

Roland Koch of the Christian Democrats and Ruth Wagner of the Free Democrats announced the plans at separate meetings with their parties and both said they were in favour of building a new 2,800 metre runway on a wooded area northwest of the airport, which belongs to the town Kelsterbach.
