A Chat With My Censor
"I don't look like what I am," said the man's voice on the telephone, a little nasal, but pleasant. It was because of this sentence I decided to meet with my censor, comrade inspector M.
Officially--as he put it--he was from the state security police (S.D.B.) in charge of the press. I knew such people existed, but even so, his sudden invitation for "an informal meeting and chat" caught me by surprise. I could have refused, but something overcame my reluctance, drew me to go, and I agreed to see him the next day.
