The Maisonette and many other high-end restaurants across the country have adopted the very continental custom of a separate cheese course, offering cheeses after dessert or as a dessert substitute.
The Cincinnati landmark restaurant offers an assortment of several cheeses to diners wishing to end their meal with a taste of the dairy art, and the Cincinnatian Hotel's Palace offers a cheese course as an entree.
Serving cheese as a separate course, as has been done for many years in Europe, is now deemed a restaurant trend among expensive eateries, which are often the fount of general food trends.
