Article: Australia, Philippines settle trade dispute.(Brief Article)(Statistical Data Included)

It took six months and cost Australia a third of its cattle exports to its biggest customer, but Philippines Agriculture Secretary Edgardo Angara and Australia's Trade Minister Mark Vaile said June 26 they had finally found a settlement in their trade dispute over fruit inspections.

Under terms of the settlement, Australia will start immediately to perform a risk assessment of Philippine bananas. This assessment is supposed to be completed within two years. Australia said it will begin a risk assessment of pineapple imports from several countries, including the Philippines, the Solomon Islands and Sri Lanka, within a few months.
