The commitment by ABN AMRO to the Middle East remains undimmed in the face of radical restructuring plans being drawn up by the head office in Amsterdam.
The bank is reorganising itself along global lines of business rather than along geographical regions, as its business segments are currently aligned. "We are at the early stages of the process," says Pieter Stor, the bank's Dubai-based head of structured finance for the Gulf. "The question of where some lines of business will want to be based is still under review. Some of the bank's global operations will be closed down, but nothing in the Middle East. We are a successful operation."
