The launching of the car model Celta, is one of the strategies of motor vehicles producer General Motors to face the competition in the Brazilian popular cars segment. Popular segment is teamed by the model Uno and Corsa (Fiat), Gol Special (Volkswagen), and Ka (Ford). Accordingto the industry association Anfavea (Associa=E7=E3o Nacional dos Fabricantes de Veiculos Automotores) the segment reached the sale of 63,000 units in July 2000, while in June it sold 62,400 units, in May 63,600, and April 57,300 units.
