New Zealand has selected the LAV III light armored vehicle by General Motors Canada [GM] to equip its army under a $270 million program, but it has also decided to cancel an upgrade by Raytheon [RTNA/RTNB] of its Lockheed Martin [LMT] P-3 maritime patrol aircraft due to rising costs, the country's defence minister said yesterday.
The decision to buy the LAV III reflects the focus of the current Labor Party government on ground forces and transportation assets that can be used for peacekeeping operations.
