Ruth Mitchell, Hampshire's longtime village clerk and a teacher to hundreds of children over the years, died Tuesday after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Friends and family Tuesday remembered Mitchell, 77, for her friendliness and community involvement.
"Everybody was important to her, and people couldn't help but like her," said her husband, Marion "Mitch" Mitchell. "She was very involved - wherever people were concerned, she was there to help."
That is why a group of her friends thought she would be the perfect person to run for village clerk in 1985. She was elected then and held the position for another two terms until retiring last year because of her ...
