Traffic congestion on the Tacoma Narrows Bridge deeply affects Kitsap County residents, but they are torn between the need for a new bridge and the toll proposed to pay for it.
A study done by the state Department of Transportation in June showed 29 percent of the rush-hour bridge traffic came from or was headed to Kitsap County - more than any other area except Gig Harbor, which accounted for 61 percent of rush-hour traffic.
The state DOT proposes a new suspension bridge immediately south of the existing bridge at an estimated cost of $410 million. A proposed $3 round-trip toll would help pay a private company to build and manage the span. An advisory ...
