One of the pleasures of seeing ``China: 5,000 Years'' is the audience. It includes many who are of Chinese descent, often in family groups, there to bask in the great work of their ancestors.
A sense of collective identity, fate and accomplishment predated communism in China and will outlive it. What's been destroyed is art.
``China: 5,000 Years'' comes in two parts, with historical art at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum uptown and a look at the past 150 years at the Guggenheim Museum SoHo downtown.
